Summary: Genes, gene patenting and public awareness on issues in biotechnology.
Until now I have never really thought too much about genes, gene patenting and public awareness on issues in biotechnology. I find it interesting that technology has allowed us to come up with advancements and discoveries such as the BRCA1 and BRCA2, which is a discovery of the breast cancer gene and several mutations in it. However, through reading these articles I find that it is obvious how greedy people can be.

First of all, I believe people should have a right to know information on their genes and what their genes mean. I used to think the public had free access to any kind of biotech advances, especially ones that related to your health. I was very surprised to learn that as scientists have been unravelling what our genes mean, patents have been granted left and right by the U.S. Patent Office for incomplete gene sequences...
