Kashmir is located in a valley in the northernmost region of India and is part of a state called Jammu and. In the year 1947, Jammu and Kashmir was an independent country for all common sense reasons and purposes. The British had ruled India and when they left, India was partitioned into two different countries the same year. India was split into two because the majority of Indian people were Hindu and people living in Pakistan were mostly Muslim. The Maharaja who ruled the state had signed agreements with Pakistan and India to stay neutral and not become a part of either country. Soon after Pakistani raiders and soldiers attacked the state forcing the Maharaja to escape to India where he asked India to help.
