Connie's mother sees Connie as an ugly, radical person. She believes June, Connie's older sister, is the perfect, most beautiful woman. Connie uses June to go into town to meet boys. This devious action comes to blow up in Connie's face when Friend, a strange man, comes to her house after she refuses to go to a barbecue with her parents. Friend wants Connie to come with him; she tries to decide as he threatens her, her family, and her house if she picks up the phone. Connie finally decides to go with Friend out of desperation.
