Summary: Essay discusses the battle at Messines Ridge and the strategy needed to take it in the Battle of Third Ypres.
The Great War started off with the Germans wanting to take over France. To do this they used the Schlieffen plan that consisted of four divisions that swept in a round route that surrounded France. The key objective in the plan was to surround Paris so that the enemy's lines could not receive food supplies or artillery from Paris. This plan was not a success because the division that was supposed to in close Paris Germans was set back by two events. One was that they were not expecting the British to step in when they tried going through Belgian territory. They were short on supplies and were not able to carry out their task of taking over Paris. The French and British stopped them right outside the wall of Paris and drove them back.
