Summary: My essay is about the first-ever USDA Food Act. It just shows how hard it was for the American public and the president to pass a meat inspection act.
When I eat canned meat, I always know for a fact that it is meat that I had purchased and not bits and pieces of a rat. How do I know this? The simple fact that today's laws are much different than the laws we had in the 1900's. Back in those days, a lot of speculation was going around suggesting that canned meat products carried unhealthy additives or rats. The Jungle only added fuel to the fire by basically saying it was true. In the 1900's there was no law and there was no act of any kind that stated that meat had to be inspected prior to being shipped out to Americans. This was one of the main problems we had as a young super power country. There was no way for the American public to know that the meat was pure and didn't have any...
