Time For Franklin

By: Mary Elizbeth

In the story of Franklin and the teacher, the teacher tries to over power Franklin, which makes him very upset and more demanding. Franklin was making a face out of play dough and he was deeply engrossed with making his project. When it was time to clean up, the teacher took out her mallet and rang the xylophone to let the children know it was time to clean up and move on to the next activity. When the teacher told Franklin to clean up, he got very upset. That made it very frustrating for the teacher because she is strictly set on a schedule. Franklin would not clean up and he kept working on his project. They teacher was not going to win so she grabbed the play dough and folded it up in front of his face. He finally got up and ran to the door. The Article is trying to point out that the teacher needs to pick their battles. The teacher did not have to make him stop playing with the play dough. She could have let him stay inside and played with the play dough instead of going outside.

I think it is very important to pick your battles. It will make yours and the children's day a little bit easier. This article differently shows you that picking your battles will work. The teacher could have giving Franklin the option of going outside or staying inside to finish his project, but also telling him that he is going to miss going outside. She could have also told him he could finish another day. Also I don't think that teachers should abide by the schedule all the time. Teachers should go case-by-case student-by-student. Everyone is different. I think that if teachers read this articles there days might go better for both the student and the teacher.
