Competition Between Singapore and Hong Kong

Summary: Short essay discussing competition between Singapore and Hong Kong during the late 1990's.
Hong Kong and Singapore are two completely different nations who compete feverishly against one another.  The best way to describe the two countries was said by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who said, "In Hong Kong, anything not expressly forbidden is permitted, whereas in Singapore, anything not expressly permitted is forbidden."  This statement is an indication to the different lifestyles of the people of the two countries.  Hong Kong is considered much more of a singles country while Singapore is for the married families.  Hong Kong is polluted and has high housing costs.  Singapore, however, has strict restrictions from social behavior to taxes.  One of the largest differences exists in the level of cleanliness.  Singapore is known as one of the cleanest countries in the world.  In sharp contrast, Hong Kong, is much dirtier.
