Summary: It's a short story dealing with a women taking in consideration a boys stubbornness by giving, understanding, and showing compassion in Langston Hughes "Thank You M'am'."
What would you do if someone came up from behind you and tried to steal your purse? Would you make them suffer or help them understand stealing is wrong by showing sympathy and kindness? In Langston Hughes "Thank You M'am'," he uses conflict and imagery to express the theme of giving and understanding by showing compassion.

In the story a boy named Roger decides to meet Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones by trying to grab her purse and take off. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful.
