Summary: This is a research paper that describes the biological background of testosterone and how it effects people.
The compound that I decided to research is Testosterone. Testosterone is a androgenic hormone whose molecular formula is C6 H12 O6 . Testosterone distinguishes masculine characteristics on the male body. For example injection of this hormone into the female's fetus causes development of male sex organs. Other secondary sex characteristics that men get from testosterone are distribution of hair (face, chest, and pubes), baldness, effects on voice, effect on skin/development of acne and basal metabolism. The amount of Testosterone that is being secreted in the fetus genital ridge determines if it is male. If the chromosome secretes testosterone from this ridge it is male, if it secretes estrogen it is female. Testosterone stimulates the production of semen; the highest semen production is when a male is in puberty.
