Although both the New England and Chesapeake Bay colonies were settled by the English, there were many differences between the two. There were ecological, religious, agricultural and geographical and climate differences.

While the New England and Chesapeake Bay colonies were both established by the English, different types, or groups, of English people settled in the two different regions. Mostly families and their servants went to New England. There were men and women and children ranging from one year old to forty years old. On the other hand, mostly young men and indentured servants went to Virginia. Their ages ranged from fourteen years old to thirty-two years old, with one forty year old, one fifty old and eleven women.
