Summary: Essay compares the transformation of "Emma" to "Cher" in the opening parts.
The opening of clueless compared to the first chapter of Emma is not a second rate attempt by Heckerling to emulate the characters and concerns produced by Austen. Heckerling has turned a 19th century classic into a modern masterpiece keeping the basic character and ideas alike to Emma however it is its own text. From looking at the characters of the two pieces there are a lot of similarities, however just as many differences. Both texts feature the key themes and values that Austen points out though her text however in a modern context and lastly the techniques and perspectives are diverse enough to give meaning and look to each text.

Emma and Cher are both very alike in that they are "handsome, clever and rich" this can be clearly seen though the visuals of Cher's lifestyle and the text of Emma. The film's opening montage offers images...
