Summary: Essay discusses the history behind rock and roll music as well as the role played by sex and drugs within the industry.
Rock and roll has played a huge part in today's society and musical well-being. Rock `n' roll has not only changed music but has altered American culture since the 1950's and has continued to change to conform to meet musical requests today. This music has begun from African American roots, partook in the rebellion of the conformity of the 1950s, and has spawned new forms of music today.

Rock `n' roll did not start as the rock `n' roll people know and love today. It began from the styles of African American slave music stemming from the black spirituals of the 1920s and 1930s, and the rhythm and blues of the 1940s. The popularity of rock began after the Great Migration of African Americans in the 1940s, thus the movement to larger cities, blacks brought with them the Delta blues, the roots of rock music.
