Case Study on Marijuana
Summary: Essay is a case study regarding if it would be a good decision to legalize marijuana.
The question of whether or not to legalize marijuana has been around since 1937 when marijuana was first made illegal (MPP). Since then, many people have continued to argue to the fact that marijuana is adequate for many medicinal purposes. In 1970, the Controlled Substances Act placed all prescription and illicit drugs under five categories or "schedules" . Marijuana was placed in Schedule I, with the substance defined as "as having a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medicinal use in treatment in the United States, and a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision" (MPP). However, there have been many studies done which show that marijuana shows a definite possibility of being used for medicinal purposes. For instance, many doctors and researchers feel that marijuana is beneficial for the treatement of many dangerous ailments such as AIDS, glaucoma, cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepcy, and chronic pain (MPP).
