2 Say to the heathen, from thy throne,
“I am Jehovah—God alone!”
Thy voice their idols shall confound,
And cast their altars to the ground.

3 No more let human blood be spilt,
Vain sacrifice for human guilt;
But to each conscience be applied
The blood, that flowed from Jesus’ side.

4 Almighty God! thy grace proclaim In every clime, of every name, Till adverse powers before thee fall, And crown the Savior—Lord of all.

     William Shrubsole, 1776.

Mission to the Heathen. (1030)

Behold, the heathen waits to know
The joy the gospel will bestow;
The exiled captive to receive
The freedom Jesus has to give.

2 Come, let us, with a grateful heart, In this blest labor share a part; Our prayers and offerings gladly bring To aid the triumphs of our King.

3 Our hearts exult in songs of praise,
That we have seen these latter days,
When our Redeemer shall be known
Where Satan long has held his throne.

4 Where’er his hand hath spread the skies, Sweet incense to his name shall rise, And slave and freeman, Greek and Jew, By sovereign grace be formed anew.

The Gospel Banner. (1027)

Fling out the banner! let it float
  Skyward and seaward, high and wide,
The sun that lights its shining folds,
  The cross on which the Savior died.

2 Fling out the banner! angels bend
  In anxious silence o’er the sign,
And vainly seek to comprehend
  The wonder of the love divine.

3 Fling out the banner! heathen lands
  Shall see from far the glorious sight;
And nations, crowding to be born,
  Baptize their spirits in its light.

4 Fling out the banner! sin-sick souls,
  That sink and perish in the strife,
Shall touch in faith its radiant hem,
  And spring immortal, into life.

5 Fling out the banner! let it float
  Skyward and seaward, high and wide
Our glory, only in the cross,
  Our only hope, the Crucified.

6 Fling out the banner! wide and high,
  Seaward and skyward let it shine;
Nor skill, nor might, nor merit, ours;
  We conquer only in that sign.

     George W. Doane, 1848.

Hopeful View. (1042)

Yes, we trust the day is breaking;
  Joyful times are near at hand;
God, the mighty God, is speaking
  By his word in ev’ry land;
    When he chooses,
  Darkness flies at his command.

2 While the foe becomes more daring,
  While he enters like a flood
God, the Savior, is preparing
  Means to spread his truth abroad,
    Ev’ry language
  Soon shall tell the love of God.

3 Oh, ’tis pleasant, ’tis reviving
  To our hearts, to hear, each day,
Joyful news, from far arriving,
  How the gospel wins its way,
    Those enlight’ning
  Who in death and darkness lay.
