4 Let us be wean’d from all below,
Let hope our grief expel,
While death invites our souls to go
Where our best kindred dwell.

Hymn 1:48.
The Christian race, Isa. 40. 28-31.

1 Awake, our souls, away, our fears,
Let every trembling thought be gone;
Awake and run the heavenly race,
And put a cheerful courage on.

2 True, ’tis a strait and thorny road,
And mortal spirits tire and faint;
But they forget the mighty God
That feeds the strength of every saint.

3 Thee, mighty God, whose matchless power
Is ever new and ever young,
And firm endures while endless years
Their everlasting circles run.

4 From thee the overflowing spring, Our souls shall drink a fresh supply, While such as trust their native strength Shall melt away, and drop and die.

5 Swift as an eagle cuts the air
We’ll mount aloft to thine abode,
On wings of love our souls shall fly,
Nor tire amidst the heavenly road.

Hymn 1:49.
The works of Moses and the Lamb, Rev. 15. 3.

1 How strong thine arm is, mighty God,
Who would not fear thy Name!
Jesus, how sweet thy graces are!
Who would not love the Lamb!

2 He has done more than Moses did,
Our Prophet and our King;
From bonds of hell he freed our souls,
And taught our lips to sing.

3 In the Red-sea by Moses’ hand
Th’ Egyptian host was drown’d;
But his own blood hides all our sins,
And guilt no more is found.

4 When thro’ the desert Israel went,
With manna they were fed;
Our Lord invites us to his flesh,
And calls it living bread.

5 Moses beheld the promis’d land,
Yet never reach’d the place;
But Christ shall bring his followers home
To see his Father’s face.

6 Then shall our love and joy be full,
And feel a warmer flame;
And sweeter voices tune the song
Of Moses and the Lamb.

Hymn 1:50.
The song of Zacharias, and the message of John
the Baptist; or, Light and salvation by Jesus Christ,
Luke 1. 68 &c.  John 1. 29. 32.

1 Now be the God of Israel bless’d
Who makes his truth appear,
His mighty hand fulfils his word,
And all the oaths he sware.

2 Now he bedews old David’s root
With blessings from the skies;
He makes the branch of promise grow,
The promis’d horn arise.

3 [John was the prophet of the Lord
To go before his face,
The herald which our Saviour God
Sent to prepare his ways.

4 He makes the great salvation known,
He speaks of pardon’d sins;
While grace divine and heavenly love
In its own glory shines.

5 “Behold the Lamb of God,” he cries,
“That takes our guilt away:
“I saw the Spirit o’er his head
“On his baptizing day.]

6 “Be every vale exalted high,
“Sink every mountain low,
“The proud must stoop, and humble souls
“Shall his salvation know.
