Sports Stars on Rebecca Lobo

Every team starts the season undefeated, but very few finish without a loss. Only nine major college basketball teams, men's and women's, have ever finished the season without a loss. One of those teams is the 1994-95 Connecticut Lady Huskies, who won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Championship with a 35-0 record. The main reason for their success was senior center Rebecca Lobo, voted the 1995 Women's Collegiate Player of the Year. Lobo overcame her mother's illness to become the player Sports Illustrated called "the post with the most." In 1996 she played for the U.S. Olympic women's "Dream Team" that won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and in 1997 she became one of the brightest stars of the new Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as a member of the New York Liberty.
