Hulick went on to call Kindl a "master of characterization" in the creation of a cast of young female protagonists who are "likeable, smart, witty, touching, and honest." Kindl lets her imagination roam freely in her young adult novels Owl in Love, The Woman in the Wall, Goose Chase, and Lost in the Labyrinth.
