Dictionary of Literary Biography on Noel Greig
Noël Greig is a prolific writer whose work has only occasionally been seen on the conventional theater circuit. He has worked with many alternative theater organizations and was a leading figure from the beginning in the pioneering company Gay Sweatshop. He was then, and remains, one of the most important dramatic voices in the gay-rights movement.
Noël Anthony Miller Greig was born in Winchester on Christmas Day 1944--hence his given name--to Dorothy (née Hipkin) and Robert Greig. He was educated at Skegness Grammar School and Kings College of the University of London, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. (with Honors) in history. Greig says in "The Body Electric" (1983) that he was "able to jump out of the working class trap I was born into, thanks to the educational advantages of being born in 1944," the year of the education reform act that provided...
