A lifetime of travel, reading, and art is the source of inspiration for author-illustrator Marcia Brown, resulting in dozens of picture books for children that are refreshingly unique. Her career in the field of children's literature is one of great distinction; she is the only three-time winner of the Caldecott Medal and has received the Caldecott Honor Award for six of her books. Brown was the American nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award for illustration in 1966 and again in 1975 and has received many awards, such as the University of Southern Mississippi Medallion and the Regina Medal. Both awards are given for the body of an author's work. Her artwork has been exhibited widely, including presentations at the Brooklyn Museum, Library of Congress, and Carnegie Institute.
