Novelist and journalist Bebe Moore Campbell is an African American writer known for her courageous critiques of contemporary society. A contributing editor for Essence magazine and a commentator for National Public Radio (NPR), she has published nearly one hundred articles, not only in Essence but also in Black Enterprise, Ms., Seventeen, Parents, and various newspapers, including The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Detroit Free Press. The topics addressed in these articles range from feminist advice for black women regarding their business careers or personal lives to commentaries about interracial relationships, electoral and congressional politics, apartheid, the 1992 Los Angeles riots in response to the verdict in the Rodney King case, police brutality, Medicare, and class prejudice in the African American community.
