Academy award winning director, screenwriter, and producer Barry Levinson began his show business career in the late 1960s as a comedian and found success in every Hollywood path he took, but most notably as a director of movies, including Wag the Dog, Diner, The Natural, and Good Morning, Vietnam. Critics such as Peter Stack of the San Francisco Chronicle have hailed Levinson as a golden talent. Stack proclaimed that in his movie Sleepers, Levinson showed "a genius for depicting male bonding in shades of humor mixed with sorrow."

The Baltimore native reached a milestone in his career in 1988 when he won the best director Oscar for Rain Main. Then, in 1991, Bugsy, which he directed and produced, was nominated for ten Academy Awards including best picture and best director.
