Willing Overview

“Willing” is a story by Lorrie Moore. It was originally published in the New Yorker in 1990. In 1998, it was re-published as part of Moore’s story collection Birds of America. The story follows Sidra, a woman in her late thirties who has had a fairly successful career as a Hollywood film actress. However, she becomes disillusioned with Hollywood and decides to move back to her hometown of Chicago. She wishes to settle down and raise a family, but she encounters difficulties and frustrations. This story explores themes of isolation, hope, and disillusionment.
