Willa of the Wood (Book 1) Overview

Robert Beatty's Willa of the Wood is the first novel in the eponymous series. The story follows Willa, a little Faeran girl who lives with her clan in the Smoky Mountains. When she acts against her clan, her grandmother is murdered, and Willa is cast out into the woods alone. Eventually, she befriends a grieving human man who has lost his wife and children. When Willa realizes that the man's children are being kept prisoner by her old clan, she risks her life to free them. The novel explores the individual and the collective, necessity and greed, culture, conservation, and family.
