The Harlem Dancer (Poem) Overview

"The Harlem Dancer" by Claude McKay is a 14-line sonnet poem written in iambic pentameter. McKay was a Jamaican-American writer who was an important figure in the Harlem Renaissance. "The Harlem Dancer" was first published in 1917, and then republished in his 1922 poetry collection Harlem Shadows and James Weldon Johnson's The Book of American Negro Poetry published the same year.
