The Crystal Gazer Overview

"The Crystal Gazer" is a Modernist lyric poem composed of two quatrains written by American poet Sara Trevor Teasdale. Originally published in her 1926 collection Dark of the Moon, "The Crystal Gazer" relies on an extended metaphor of a sibyl scrying a crystal ball to convey themes of perception and introspection. In the poem, the speaker states her intention to gather the fragmented parts of herself in order to achieve unity through contemplation.
