The Bullet That Missed, by Richard Osman, is the third installment in the Thursday Murder Club Mystery series. In this novel, Joyce Meadowcraft and her friends decide to investigate the unsolved murder of young newscaster Bethany Waites. Bethany had been investigating a Value Added Tax (VAT) scam when her car was driven or pushed off Shakespeare Cliff into the ocean. The car contained scraps of clothing and Bethany’s blood, but her body was never located. The police deemed the death a murder, but they never found her killer. Themes in the novel include the value of friends, the intricacies of money laundering, and the horror of dementia.
