Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, Book 1) Overview
Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars is the first book in a series of novels about a group of dysfunctional seventh-grade friends whose leader, Alison DiLaurentis, has mysteriously disappeared. The four remaining girls spread out and begin to lead their own, individual lives, but as they begin their junior year of high school, it becomes clear that the past is not finished with them. A stalker that goes by the anonymous name “A” begins to harass the girls, and, in the end, Alison DiLaurentis is revealed to have been murdered. Along the way, the novel explores the nature of secrets and lies, body image, friendships, families, self, sexuality, and place.
