Lorna Mott Comes Home Overview
Diane Johnson's novel Lorna Mott Comes Home is the story of Lorna and her extended family as they face the challenges of aging at a time when “home” is not always a specific place and when the roles of family are not always clear. Lorna believes her 20-year marriage to Armand is over when she returns to America where her three grown children and her former husband are all facing problems of their own. Then, Lorna discovers that her home really is in France with Armand after all and that a person can sometimes step in to help in the most unlikely situations. The novel's main themes are the inevitability of change, social and physical mobility, and guilt and regret over failure.
