Inheritance Overview

The Inheritance is a two-part metatheatrical play by Matthew Lopez, inspired by E. M. Forster's novel Howards End. The play focuses on a group of gay men in contemporary New York City and their relationships to one another over the course of several years. The play's main character, Eric Glass, loses a home and a significant relationship during this time, but he also succeeds in finding himself. Eric's eventual path illustrates the play's concerns with community, mentorship, and history, and the importance of mutual responsibility and living authentically.
