In This Strange Labyrinth, How Shall I Turn? Overview

"In This Strange Labyrinth, How Shall I Turn?" is a sonnet by Lady Mary Wroth. It is part of her sonnet sequence, which was first published appended to her longer verse romance, The Countess of Montgomery’s Urania, and then separately under the title Pamphilia to Amphilanthus. It was likely written in or around the year 1610, and first published in 1621 as part of the Urania. It is part of the "Crown of Sonnets" known as a corona, included in the Urania – a series of 14 sonnets printed closely together atop other pages of the manuscript in order to emphasize certain themes in the longer text. In this sonnet, Wroth writes about the confusion and overwhelming uncertainty of making decisions about romantic love.
