Guantánamo Diary Overview
Mouhamedou Ould Slahi's memoir Guantanamo Diary, edited by Larry Siems, chronicles Slahi's experience as a suspected terrorist detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Slahi is a Mauritanian, Muslim, German-educated man, who worked internationally for years. He is first detained in Mauritania, then sent to Jordan and Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan before being sent to Guantanamo. He recounts his experiences with interrogation, abuse, and torture in these locations over the course of four years. Slahi's descriptions and analysis in Guantanamo Diary raises questions about justice, religion, American national mythology, and humanity.
