Good Morning, Midnight Overview
In Lily Brooks-Dalton's post-apocalyptic literary novel Good Morning, Midnight, 78-year-old Augustine Lofthouse is the last man on Earth, battling the elements at the Arctic Circle with his mysterious companion, a quasi-mute eight-year-old girl named Iris. Meanwhile in outer space, an astronaut named Sully returns from a trip to Jupiter and finds she has been cut off from communication with Mission Control. Sully and Augustine, two lonely survivors of the end of the world, edge closer together as each attempt to contact any remaining survivors via their radio systems and contend with the perils of the harsh settings in which they have found themselves. The novel's themes relate to isolation, regret, the universe, and emotional repression.
