'Pemi Aguda's Ghostroots is a collection of 12 short stories that centralize Nigerian characters and their experiences of time, love, identity, and place. In the collected stories, a young woman gradually begins to turn into her late grandmother; a daughter feels trapped when her mother begins to regard her as the young girl she killed in a car accident; a little boy is delighted when three masquerades follow him home one day and befriend him. Combining elements of magical realism, surrealism, and realism, Aguda's short stories explore themes including intimacy, freedom, and loss.
