From the Desire Field Overview

"From the Desire Field" is a free verse poem by poet, language activist, and educator Natalie Diaz. Diaz, who was born in the Fort Mojave Indian Village in Needles, California, is Mojave and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Tribe (Akimel O’odham). Originally written as part of the poetic epistolary exchange between Diaz and Ada Limón entitled Envelopes of Air, "From the Desire Field" reframes anxiety and insomnia as a desirable garden. The poem was published in 2017 as part of the "Poem-a-Day" series by the Academy of American Poets.
