From a Whisper to a Rallying Cry Overview

Paula Yoo's book, From a Whisper to a Rallying Cry, is the story of Vincent Chin, an Asian American man who was killed after a bar fight with Ronald Ebens and Eben's stepson, Michael Nitz. Through failures of the judicial system, Ebens and Nitz were sentenced for manslaughter rather than murder. Both were sentenced to three years probation and a fine. The public outcry that followed prompted federal trials alleging a violation of the Civil Rights Act. Ultimately, Ebens and Nitz were found not guilty on all counts. The book's main themes/motifs are prejudice against Asians, the legal process after Vincent's death, failure to meet responsibilities, and the dangers of misinformation.
