Fish in a Tree Overview

Fish in a Tree, inspired in some ways by Alice in Wonderland, is the story of Ally Nickerson, who feels isolated because she has difficulty reading. As she works closely with a supportive teacher and develops friendships with other students who also feel isolated, Ally realizes that it is possible for her to improve her life. At the same time, the narrative also explores themes relating to experiences of bullying, the versatility of words, and the value of individuality.
