Countdown Overview
Deborah Wiles' Countdown is a novel about Franny Chapman, an 11-year-old fifth grader during the brief Cuban Missile Crisis, living with the daily fear of a nuclear attack while dealing with her family and friends. Her best friendship is in crisis, there is a handsome boy who has moved back into the neighborhood, and Franny fears her beloved older sister is becoming involved in something dangerous.
