All's Well Overview

Mona Awad's 2021 novel All's Well is a supernatural farce about the healing power of theater, as well as a homage to the plays of Shakespeare. Miranda Fitch, the protagonist, is a former actor whose budding stage career was derailed by an injury that has kept her in years of chronic agony, abusing the prescription drugs meant to relieve her pain and anxiety. Now a hapless associate professor of theater at an underfunded college, Miranda faces a mutiny from her student actors unhappy about her choice for the spring production. With the fabled Curse of Macbeth running through its plot, All's Well also considers themes of personal redemption, patriarchal attitudes, gender, and class.
