Zhukov (Russian: Жу́ков) is a town in Kaluga Oblast, Russia, located on the Ugodka River (Protva's tributary) some 90 km northwest of Kaluga. Population: 12,300 (2005 est.); 12,306 (2002 Census); 2,888 (1989 Census). Zhukov was founded in the early 17th century. It has been known as a settlement of Ugodsky Zavod (Уго́дский Заво́д, or Ugodsky Factory) since 1656 due to the construction of an ironworks. In 1974, it was renamed Zhukovo (Жуково) in honor of Georgy Zhukov and granted town status and renamed Zhukov in 1997.
