Yellow in R/G/B saga

Yellow first appears in the final volume of the R/G/B saga. After losing her way in the Viridian Forest, Yellow is attacked by a wild Dratini. Red saves her, then takes her back to her hometown, Viridian City, and helps her catch her first Pokémon, a Rattata. After that, he goes off to fight Giovanni and beats him, but he is so injured that he faints at the forest edge. Yellow finds him and nurses him back to health. She never gives him her name until the Yellow saga. (It isn't until the G/S/C saga that Red finds out that the girl he saved and Yellow are the same person.)

Yellow in Yellow saga

Two years later, Yellow shows up at Professor Oak's lab disguised as a boy. Her personality becomes clear in the Yellow saga. She is a happy-go-lucky girl who isn't very good with Pokémon skills. She especially dislikes Pokémon battles because she cannot bring herself to hurt them. Green is the person who sends her on a mission to save Red, because of her mysterious Viridian Powers that allow her to heal and communicate with Pokémon. Every few years, a baby of Viridian Forest is blessed with these powers. Lance, the leader of the Elite Four, and Giovanni, of Team Rocket, (the last people known to have seen Red), also has these powers. Thus, Green sends Yellow because she is one of the few people who can even stand a chance against him. Her true gender is revealed at the end of volume six to Blaine, but she is too shy to tell Red now.

Yellow in G/S/C saga

Readers first see Yellow in the G/S/C Saga as a girl, greeting her uncle Wilton (a fisherman), who asks for her help regarding the legendary birds in Johto. She has a female Pikachu called Chuchu, whom she had found hurt and wandering in the forest. When she goes to meet Red (whom she has stayed in touch with ever since she defeated Lance), Yellow wears her hat to keep her identity hidden. She goes on to cheer him and Blue on at the Gym Leader test, and is deeply concerned about Red when he grew weak (because of his ice freeze one year ago). After the challenge, Blue gives Red some information on the cure for his hands, and he flies off on Charizard, leaving his Pikachu, Pika, behind. Instead, Yellow brings Pika along on her trip into Johto. There, Yellow meets up with Crystal, and it is revealed that Yellow was the one who woke up the 3 legendary beasts - Suicune, Raikou, and Entei - from within the Burned Tower in Ecruteak. The two of them work together briefly, until they are separated by Lugia at sea. After the attack, Yellow and her uncle washed up on shore, where they were brought to the daycare center run by an elderly couple. Upon awaking, she finds that the center is filled with Pokémon couples, and that Pika and Chuchu had an egg. She and Wilton are enlisted by the daycare lady to blow up balloons, but they are interrupted by a group of ostensibly Team Rocket members; however, they have half-masks over their faces, meaning they are minions of the Mask of Ice. Yellow holds back the Rocket grunts while the others escape, but they seem only to be interested in Yellow's hat. In truth, the two feathers on her hat are the Silver Wing from Lugia and the Rainbow Wing from Ho-Oh. They are the keys to traveling in time, stolen from the Mask of Ice many years ago and planted there by Green. This explains why the Mask of Ice has been trying to catch Lugia and Ho-Oh. After fleeing from the center, Yellow meets up again with the Pikachus, and they continue to Ilex Forest, where they find Crystal, Silver, Red, Green, and Blue, battling the Mask of Ice. He captures them with his ice sculptures, which cannot be melted except with Entei's legendary flame. As the Mask of Ice catches Celebi and travels back in time, they find that Gold is trapped within time and needs the feathers to be freed. Gold and Yellow finally realize that the Wings are on her hat, and she is forced to take it off in front of Red in order to save Gold. At this point Red finally learns Yellow’s true identity. After the battle, Red gets a call from Misty, and there is a tense moment between the three, until Gold snatches Red away for training.

Yellow in FR/LG arc

During the Fire Red/Leaf Green arc, she returns to Viridian City and attempts to battle Blue's (Green in the Japanese version of the manga) team of gym Pokémon, which have been raised well and can battle without his direction, but loses. While there, she meets Silver, who believes that he may have originally come from this area and had ties to the Viridian gym before he was kidnapped by Mask of Ice, and is now looking for his family. With her aid and the sudden arrival of Oca and Storc (whom the two promptly face in a battle), Silver learns that he is in fact the son of Giovanni, former Viridian City gym leader and head of Team Rocket. After he is kidnapped by the evil duo, Yellow gives chase on her Butterfree, Freesk, and soon manages to break into the Team Rocket helicopter to rescue him. She is later reunited with Red, Green, and Blue. Unfortunately all of them are turned to stone due a side-affect of Mewtwo trying to stop Storc's last attempt to capture Deoxys.

Yellow in Battle Frontier arc

So far, Yellow's only appearcence in the Battle Frontier arc is her as a statue in the corner of some room in the Battle Tower with Red, Green, Blue, and Silver.
