Windermere Island is an island located in The Bahamas. It is about six miles long and is noted for its beaches. The island is renowned as a private retreat for the rich. The adjoining waters of Savannah Sound are considered to be a premier bonefishing location. It is connected by a gated bridge to Eleuthera. Although seldom mentioned in articles and guidebooks, Windermere has a five-mile long beach which is one of the best in the Bahamas. The island is populated with private homes and what remains of the Windermere Island Club, which was popular with many of London's society set. Diana Princess of Wales holidayed in one of the houses, and enjoyed the beach in Savannah Sound from where a member of the paparazzi snapped the infamous picture of a pregnant Princess in a swimsuit. Coordinates: 25°04′N, 76°06′W
