William John Westwood (28 December 1925 (in Saul, Gloucestershire) – 15 September 1999) was the 36th Anglican Bishop of Peterborough from 1984 to 1996. After ordination in 1952, he was appointed Curate of Holy Trinity Church, Hull. Since then he has been Rector of Lowestoft, Vicar of St Peter Mancroft, Norwich (1965-75) and Area Bishop of Edmonton, London (1975-84), Chairman of the Church of England Committee for Communications, President of the Church Housing Association. He has also been a member of the Board of Governors of Nene College, and an Honorary Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge from 1989 until his death. "Bishop Bill" was known to millions through his Thought for the Day broadcasts on BBC Radio 4's Today programme. Member of Press Council (1975-81), IBA Panel of Religious Advisers (1983-7), Video Consultative Council (1985-9) and Broadcasting Standards Council (1988-92). His son is prominent British radio hip-hop DJ Tim Westwood.
