The Wellington Firebirds are one of six New Zealand first-class cricket teams that make up New Zealand Cricket. It is based in Wellington. It competes in the State Championship first class (4 day) competition, the State Shield domestic one day competition and the State Twenty20 Cricket Tournament. The Firebirds have the best State Championship record of any team since the start of the millennium. They won the title in 2000/01 and 2003/04 and were runners up in 2001/02, 2002/03 and 2005/06.
