Watergardens is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is the terminus of the Sydenham line in the suburb of Sydenham. It is in Metcard Zone 2 and was converted to a Premium Station in 2002, meaning that its staffed from first to last train. The station is named after the nearby Watergardens Shopping Centre. The station replaced the now abandoned Sydenham station, which existed to the north of Watergardens station, when the line was electrified in 2002. V/Line services to Sunbury and Bendigo continue past Sydenham. Prior to the electrification, metropolitan electric services terminated at St Albans. The station was built as a replacement for the former Sydenham station, and was to be named Sydenham, which name was built into the brickwork of the station building. However, naming rights were sold the adjacent shopping centre, so the station is known as Watergardens, although operationally the station and line still use the Sydenham name. The station is currently (2007) receiving a upgrading to the carparking on the western side of Sydenham Road. The amount of car park spaces will increase from 200 to 500 spaces and will be sealed with kerbs and lighting. A temporary gravel carpark has been created on Watergardens Shopping Centre land north of the station.
