Walton is a village in Delaware County, New York in the USA. As of the 2000 census, the village population was 3,070. The Village of Walton is in the Town of Walton.

Geography

Walton is located at 42°10′11″N, 75°7′49″W (42.169802, -75.130329)GR1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²), of which, 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.25%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,070 people, 1,366 households, and 818 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,945.2 people per square mile (750.2/km²). There were 1,514 housing units at an average density of 959.3/sq mi (370.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.92% White, 0.33% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.13% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population. There were 1,366 households out of which 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.2% were married couples living together, 13.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. 34.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.83. In the village the population was spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 19.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.8 males. The median income for a household in the village was $26,550, and the median income for a family was $40,122. Males had a median income of $26,744 versus $19,839 for females. The per capita income for the village was $16,269. About 8.0% of families and 12.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.0% of those under age 18 and 11.1% of those age 65 or over.

Walton was the setting for the documentary "A Matter of Life and Breath" [[1]] a film about spiritual teacher Leonard Orr and his attempts to start a spiritual community in Walton.
