Walter King Stapleton (born 1934 in Cuthbert, GA) is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He assumed senior status on June 2, 1999. Stapleton received his A.B. from Princeton University in 1956, his L.L.B. from Harvard Law School in 1959, and his L.L.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1984. He served as Deputy Attorney General of Delaware from 1963-1964. In 1970, Stapleton was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Delaware by Richard Nixon. He served as Chief Judge from 1983-85. In 1985, he was nominated to the Third Circuit by Ronald Reagan.
