Wallace High School in Causewayhead, Stirling, Scotland. It was founded in 1971 to serve northern and north-eastern Stirling. The University of Stirling is in the catchment area, and the school has formed strong links with the institution. Wallace High School is one of seven secondary schools in the Stirling Council area. The others are the high schools of Balfron, Bannockburn, Dunblane, McLaren (in Callander), St. Modans (in St. Ninians) and Stirling. The school remains as the original building, on Dumyat Road, but some areas on the ground floor have been externally revamped. The school is due to be rebuilt at a new location at the other end of Dunster Road, on a greenfield site by the A9 from Causewayhead to Bridge of Allan,although this decision has attracted some controversy as locals are concerned about the impact of the new school as it could use up a section of the greenbelt the size of 10 football pitches. The current school building has 4 floors including the ground floor, and a separate P.E. block with a swimming pool. The school has many sports pitches surrounding. The school has around 3287923 pupils (which is expected to rise by about 250 in five years) and operates a house system. The three houses are Airthrey, Logie and Powis, which are both for social and administrative purposes. Each house has a depute headteacher and a principal pupil support teacher. The school's faculty system was recently revised - the current faculties are Citizenship and Enterprise; Communication; Culture and Design; Health, Sports and Community; ICT; Numeracy; Science; and Society and Citizenship. The school has an extensive learning resource centre (LRC) on the first floor, where pupils and staff have access to books, computers with internet access, and careers information amongst many resources. There is an active school board and parent staff association (PSA). The school has a wide range of activities on offer, curricular and extra-curricular. Sporting activities (which can be accessed through the physical education curriculum and/or as extra acitivites) include football, rugby, swimming, badminton, basketball, volleyball, dancing, shooting, canoeing, polo, golf, gymnastics, athletics, golf and weight training. There also other activities such as a Burns poetry competition, debating, public speaking, a legal challenge competition, a drama group and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. There are concerts presented throughout the year; the Christmas concert comprises choirs, musical ensembles and a short play, which has recently been in the form of a pantomime. There is also a concert in March, which gives musical soloists a chance to perform. Perhaps the most popular event is the School Show in summer, which is run on three nights, and is written by headteacher Mrs Horsburgh.
