Wálter Herrmann (born June 26 1979, in Venado Tuerto) is an Argentine professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons. He is of German descent.[1] He lost his mother, younger sister and his girlfriend in a car accident. Exactly one year later, his father died of a heart attack[2]. He is a key reserve on the Argentina national basketball team, and signed a one-year contract for $2M with a team option for a 2nd year to play for the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2006-07 NBA season[3]. He is listed at 6' 9", 225 lb and has dual citizenship: Argentine and Spanish. Herrmann won NBA Eastern Conference rookie of the month honors in March 2007.[4] In his 13 March games, Herrmann averaged 12.1 points and 4.2 rebounds and finished 58.5 percent on field goals and 47.2 percent on 3-pointers. Herrmann finished the 2006-07 NBA season out averaging 9.2 points per game and 2.9 rebounds per game. Wálter scored his career-high 30 points against the Milwaukee Bucks on April 14. Wálter made NBA All-Rookie Second Team along with teammate Adam Morrison at the end of the season. Following the season, the Bobcats activated their team option for the 2007-2008 NBA Season, Hermann will make $1.94 million next season. On December 14, 2007, Herrmann, along with center Primoz Brezec was traded to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for center Nazr Mohammed.[5]
