Visual MODFLOW (VMF or Visual MODFLOW Pro) is a graphical interface for MODFLOW. It is used primarily by hydrogeologists to simulate groundwater flow. The program, developed by Waterloo Hydrogeologic Inc. (WHI), is one of the first commercial graphical interfaces for MODFLOW.

History

The original version of Visual MODFLOW was first released in August 1994, and was developed for DOS by Nilson Guiguer, Thomas Franz and Bob Cleary. It was based on the USGS MODFLOW-88 and MODPATH codes, and resembled the FLOWPATH program that was also developed by Waterloo Hydrogeologic Inc. Visual MODFLOW was upgraded shortly after the initial release to Windows 3.1x by Sergei Schmakov, Alexander Liftshits, and Sean Wilson. In 2005, Waterloo Hydrogeologic was bought by Schlumberger, where it is still under active development. The current version is 4.2
