Starchild Abraham Cherrix is a 16-year-old citizen of the U.S. who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease (a cancer of the lymphatic system) and, after undergoing an initial regimen of chemotherapy, refused to submit to its further use in his treatment. After his parents supported his decision, they were accused of neglect and taken to court. After the lower court decided against the parents, the decision was overturned on appeal. Cherrix has claimed that the treatment for his form of cancer, Hodgkin's Disease, has not cured him and makes him feel worse than living with the ailment. In Mexico, he underwent the controversial herbal Hoxsey Therapy, which has been illegal in the United States since 1960. He is presently being treated by a specialist in immunotherapy, including low doses of radiation treatment, which Hodgkin's Disease is known to respond to. As of January 2007, tumors on his neck have shrunk, but lymph nodes in his armpits have swollen. He is currently seeking additional low-dose radiation treatment. As of June 2007, Abraham received the news that the tumors under his arms, in his neck and chest area had been eliminated. All except one tumor remained, which he is now being treated for once again in Mississippi. Abraham says that it's incredibly good news, seeing that only one tumor remained.
